Kent State Library to get $31K for Repairs

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde announces state capital grant

The Kent State University Library will get a total $31,300 for repairs to its fire alarm system.

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde announced Monday the state grant for the work.

"Upgrading the Library’s outdated fire alarm system is an important development,” Clyde said in prepared remarks. “This improvement will ensure that Kent State’s most visited facility is safer to the public and that its valuable collections remain preserved."

The 12-story building — the tallest in Portage County and the largest in the eight-campus Kent State system — houses on its upper floors the Special Collections and Archives, which are home to the May 4 collection and other historic materials.

The fire alarm system has not been updated since the building's construction in 1970, according to Clyde's office.

The main library houses 1.8 million volumes and 2,000 seats for study.
