Bar 145 Patio Approved by Architecture, Planning Boards

New downtown bar plans soft opening next week

Starting next week foodies will get the chance to try Bar 145, downtown Kent's newest gastropub, but it will be several more months before its outdoor patio is ready for business. Jeremy Fitzgerald, owner of Bar 145, told members of the Kent Architectural Review Board Tuesday afternoon they are planning a soft opening for the bar on East Erie Street as early as next week. "Hopefully it will be open to the public by the 18th or 19th," Fitzgerald said. The architecture board voted on plans presented by Fitzgerald to add an enclosed, outdoor patio to the the bar — much like Panini's in the new Davey Tree Building — which is located on the first floor, northeast corner of the AMETEK building. Members of the architecture board voted unanimously…

Bar 145 Plans Outdoor, Enclosed Patio

Architecture board tables vote on design

The second of three new bars to open in downtown Kent's new redevelopment space has plans for an outdoor, enclosed patio. Bar 145, based in Toledo, plans to build an enclosed patio space at its location on Erie Street at the northeast corner of the new AMETEK building. Jeremy Fitzgerald, owner of Bar 145, presented plans for the enclosed patio to the Kent Architectural Review Board Tuesday. Fitzgerald said original plans for the Kent location, the second Bar 145, did not include a patio. "And then we saw Panini's," he said. Fitzgerald was referring to the outdoor bar and patio area Panini's incorporated into its 7,000 square feet of space anchoring the new Davey Tree building at the corner of South Water Street and Haymaker Parkway. Both …

Panini's gets OK for Patio Downtown

Anchor restaurant in new Davey Tree building to open this summer

Panini's, the anchor restaurant coming to downtown Kent's new Davey Resource Group building, has the go ahead from the city for an outdoor patio. Kent City Council voted recently to give the business a license to occupy a part of the public right of way, aka the sidewalk, on South Water Street downtown. Kent City Manager Dave Ruller said the city's engineering office has been working with the developers of the building, Fairmount Properties, to create an outdoor cafe area that includes fencing and tables "in a big swath of the right-of-way" surrounding the restaurant. In a memo to council, Ruller said the outdoor space is consistent with the city's design strategy for downtown's redevelopment. "The design of the downtown redevelopment is …

it is a b w 3 on steroids. Bar, with bar food, the menu is a bunch of fat calorie foods, deep fried, or processed meat, and bar atmosphere. Even has out of the way eating area for smokers. Just another place like all the rest.   more ›

Laziza Will Have Outdoor Seating at Acorn Alley II

City approved last-minute addition of outdoor patio

The new Laziza restaurant coming to Acorn Alley II downtown will have an outdoor patio to complement its large indoor seating area. Kent City Council approved a last-minute request from developer Ron Burbick this week that allows the restaurant's patio to occupy a portion of the public right-of-way at the corner of Erie and South DePeyster streets. "This is in line with a goal the city has of encouraging an active street environment," Kent City Engineer Jim Bowling said. Laziza, a restaurant of about 3,500 square feet with 120 seats, will feature Mediterranean food, as well as steaks and seafood. It's one of the larger spaces in Acorn Alley II and will stand at the corner of Erie and South DePeyster streets — across from the Kent Central …

Wrought iron has been worked (wrought) by hammering and bending, often into elaborate shapes. It is distinguished from cast iron, where the iron takes on the shape of the mold the molten metal was poured into. There is such a thing as “rod iron”—iron shaped into rods—but this is a rare specialized term. Most instances of this form are erroneous spellings of “wrought iron,” as are all instances of…   more ›
