The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced the drunk driving checkpoint in Portage County April 14 will be set up on State Route 59 in Kent near milepost 3. The checkpoint, funded by federal grants, will be conducted with the help of the Kent Police Department from 10 p.m. Saturday April 14 until 2 a.m. Sunday April 15. "The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes," according to a press release.
