Tickets Keep Coming for Illegal Turn onto Fairchild Bridge

191 tickets issued by Kent Police in May for illegal turn

Kent cops are keeping a watchful eye on the intersection of North Mantua Street and Fairchild Avenue, and the number of tickets issued there shows it. The police department announced officers wrote 191 tickets to drivers making an illegal turn at city intersections, and most were issued to drivers making the prohibited left turn from the southbound lane of S.R. 43 onto the new Fairchild Avenue Bridge. That's almost double the 106 tickets issued in April for the same violation. "You might not always see us, but we are out there enforcing the law," the department announced on its website. I live right near Crowley Court and have noticed for months the increasing amount of cars pulled over getting tickets directly across from my front porch. It is like clockwork every 30-45 minutes. siren beeps, lights flash, ticket tickets tickets. I regularly count the cars being pulled over. POLL: Left Turns at Fairchild, S.R. 43 Intersection Sketchy

Illegal left turns from S.R. 43 onto bridge slow traffic; no left-turn arrow from Fairchild Avenue to S.R. 43 makes turning difficult

For a simple action, turning left at the intersection of S.R. 43 and Fairchild Avenue is getting a fair amount of attention from city officials — and for good reason. Whether or not you can make a left turn at the intersection depends on where you're coming from and where you're going. Right now it's illegal for drivers traveling south on S.R. 43 to turn left onto the new Fairchild Avenue Bridge. You can turn left from all other directions, but if you're heading east on Fairchild Avenue, turning north onto S.R. 43 is sometimes easier said than done. Are we going to have tp put up with this crazy intersection until August.....surely someone will be killed by then. I can't go home Ravenna road if it rain.....the road wiil be flooded under the bridge!   more ›
