Building Department Fees to Rise in 2013

Change to fees reflects comparative analysis with surrounding communities

Contractors, homeowners and developers making structural changes to buildings in Kent are going to see higher processing fees for inspections, permits and plan reviews from the city in 2012. Kent City Council voted to approve a schedule of fee changes that apply to new residential structures, existing residential, new commercial and multi-dwelling buildings, existing commercial structures and new multi-family dwellings. Kent City Manager Dave Ruller said city officials examined the fee structure in surrounding communities such as Stow, Ravenna, Streetsboro and Portage and Summit Counties to see how Kent compared. Second Round of Water, Sewer Rate Hikes Approved

Rates for both city services to increase by 9 percent in 2013; 5 percent hike in solid-waste fees passes

Starting next month Kent residents will see a jump in their water, sewer and solid waste rates as part of a series of rate hikes initially approved by Kent City Council in 2011. Council voted unanimously, with its newest member Scott Flynn abstaining, to approve the rate increases without comment Wednesday. The rate increases were born in part …

Kent council delays start date for fee increases

Council voted on increases for the water, sewer and solid waste rates separately Wednesday. Each was approved, but opposition on two rates and the lack of an emergency clause on a third means they'll start in stages. A 9 percent increase in water rates was approved with council members John Kuhar, Tracy Wallach and Robin Turner voting against it. The lack of an emergency clause on the vote means the increase won't take effect for 30 days. Council also approved a 9 percent hike in sewer rates, but not enough council members voted to suspend council rules that require…

How long has council worked on the problem for discounts for seniors and low income families. I have heard this same "We are working on it" for years many, many, many many years. There should not have been a rate hike until this very important matter is settled and those that need it Get it. Yes the city needs to repair the system but they are steadily walking, stomping on the those that built …   more ›
