Officer OK After Crashing into Police Station

Kent Police conducting internal investigation of accident

Kent Police are investigating an unusual crash. One of the department's officers struck a corner of the police department at 319 S. Water St. in a police cruiser. Kent Police Lt. James Prusha said the accident happened in the back parking lot of the police station at 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 10. "There were no injuries reported," Prusha said. The crash involved Kent Police Officer Matt Butcher, who reported a possible mechanical malfunction as having caused the accident, according to the department's accident report. In the accident report, Butcher, who was driving the car, said he was rounding a communications radio tower in the parking lot behind the station and stopped the patrol car in front of the building's garage door entrance. to some who say .. accelerated by itself? .. yes it can happen. it is caused by a fault in the cruise control..which is vacuum advanced or electronically controlled as for instance the 2002 chevy silverado has had similar issues as to accelerating in drive without the driver pressing on the gas pedal and when putting into park the vehicles engine had revved up to almost 5000 rpm.. not trying to …   more ›
