University picks Weiss/Manfredi, Richard L. Bowen & Associates to design new $40 million college
A green roof, continuous studio loft and large glass and large glass walls will be among the features incorporated into the new Kent State University College of Architecture and Design. The university confirmed Tuesday that the partnership of Cleveland-based Richard L. Bowen & Associates with New York firm WEISS/MANFREDI was chosen from the four finalists in the design competition to build the 120,000-square-foot building. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Kent State University has chosen the architecture partnership that will build the university's new, $40 million home to its architecture program. The partnership of WEISS/MANFREDI Lead Designer + Richard L. Bowen & Associates Architect of Record was chosen by Kent State to design the new building, the Plain Dealer reported today. The firms were one of four partnerships vying to build the new College of Architecture and Environmental Design building as part of a design competition. The winning design proposal for Kent State University's new College of Architecture and Environmental Design building will be announced later this month. But Kent Patch readers have already chosen their favorite. During the course of several weeks more than 500 readers cast votes in our poll for the four design proposals. In the end, Patch readers preferred the design submitted by the partnership of Architecture Research Office and Bialosky + Partners. Here's how the votes broke down: The Patch poll has no direct bearing on which design will be chosen and constructed. Top 4 firms all have U.S. offices
Four finalists have been named in the competition to create a new College of Architecture and Design at Kent State University. The university released the names of four architecture firms who will be paid a stipend to design models of the new building, which will be built along Kent State's Esplanade extension to downtown. Final firm to be selected by January
The architecture firms vying to design Kent State University's new architecture college have been narrowed from 36 applicants to eight semi-finalists. Douglas Steidl, dean of the university's architecture college, said he expects the eight semi-finalists — who have already been chosen — will be announced this week. The new building, which will stand on the Esplanade, will go through a design competition process instead of the usual design-build process. That means the winning firm will be chosen based on their submitted proposals for the new college. $211 million in renovation projects planned for main campus
The latest aerial, digital video commissioned by the Kent State University architect's office previews the more than $146 million in renovations planned for the Kent campus. The video circles above campus to show the buildings that will be renovated and the new buildings that will rise for the architecture and technology schools.
