Blotter: Panty Bandit Strikes Kent, TV and Cash Thefts

Women's underwear seems to be a hot target for thieves in Northeast Ohio lately. A Kent woman told police that someone broke into her house in the 100 block of North Lincoln Street on Friday and stole between two and four pairs of womens' underwear that were valued at about $20. In Strongsville, someone stole about 150 pairs of panties from a display table on June 23 at the mall's Victoria's Secret location, according to a police report. The panties are collectively valued at $1,362. And about a week earlier, the Victoria's Secret at Summit Mall was also hit with a theft. An employee told police a man came in seeking advice on which skirt to buy for his girlfriend. While he held up the skirt in the worker's face, two women began shoving …

Thieves Target Downtown Construction Equipment

The following information was provided by the Kent Police Department. It does not indicate conviction.

Two fairly large pieces of construction equipment were reported stolen recently from a downtown construction site. No, we're not talking backhoes or bulldozers, but we are talking barricades — big ones. Messer Construction, the firm building the new Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center, reported a street barricade with a sign reading "Road Closed" was stolen in late March. The barricade was taken around March 30 from the area of Haymaker Parkway and South DePeyster Street. The sign is valued at $500. An orange construction barrel with its rubber base also was reported stolen by Messer Construction on April 13 from the area of East Erie Street. The barrel is valued at $150. Police Blotter: Diamond Earrings Stolen; Robbery Arrest

Robbery charge for Elyria man An Elyria man was indicted by a Portage County grand jury Thursday on a third-degree felony robbery charge. Kent police arrested Darrick D. Pou, 37, just after 9 p.m. March 12 for robbing a woman near Franklin Mills River Edge Park. Pou was set to be arraigned on the charge Monday by Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman. Jewelry, electronics, mountain bike stolen One-fourth karrat diamond stud earrings were reported stolen along with several other pairs of earrings from a Kent home on March 14. Residents in the 100 block of Majors Lane reported the earrings stolen along with and iPod docking station, an iPod, a Wii and four controllers, and Xbox 360 with controllers and various games. Police Blotter: Garage Equipment, Electronics Stolen

The following arrest information was provided by the Kent Police Department. It does not indicate conviction.

Garage raided More than $1,600 in tools and vehicle equipment was reported stolen from a home in the 600 block of Emich Drive March 2.  The owners reported the following stolen: a 100,000 BTU torpedo heater; two acetylene torches, two Homelite 14-inch chainsaws; four ATV tires, an ATV exhaust system and an ATV winch; a Stihl 16-inch chainsaw; a black trailer and a Stihl backpack leaf blower. Electronics stolen More than $1,000 worth of electronics were reported stolen from a house in the 900 block of Simon Lane Feb 29. The victims reported stolen: a black Dell 17-inch laptop, a black Sharpe 22-inch TV and a black Vizio 26-inch TV. The electronics were valued at $1,200. Police Blotter: Kent Man Arrested for Stealing 30 foot Steel Trusses

The following arrest information was provided by the Kent Police Department. It does not indicate conviction.

A Kent man is facing charges of stealing multiple 30 foot steel trusses from a Kent business. Joel E. Jacobson, 40, of 525 Park Ave. was arrested in a parking lot near 800 Mogadore Road, where police found four long, steel trusses tied down to the top of a compact pick-up truck. The trusses belonged to industrial equipment manufacturer ACS Industries, and police believe the weighty material was being stolen for its scrap value — an estimated $400. Jacobson was charged Nov. 19 with one count of theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. He has since pleaded not guilty to the theft charge in Portage County Common Pleas Court. He was released on bond and is awaiting a Dec. 29 pretrial hearing on the charge.

Police Blotter: Arsonist Hits Park, More Electronics Thefts

Arsonist strikes Kent park An arsonist set fire to a wooden bench and trail kiosk near Edgewater Circle July 31. The Kent Parks and Recreation Department reported the fire, which damaged a wooden bench about 4 feet long and a wooden kiosk about 10 feet tall and 5 feet wide. The damage was estimated at a total of $600. It's not the first piece of park property to fall victim to vandals. Earlier this summer, Vandals Cut Down Trees at Plum Creek Park. Thieves hot for electronics Electronic devices continue to be a popular target for thieves in Kent. Aggravated Menacing Kent police charged 23-year-old Highland Heights native Nicholas A. Valentino with aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor, just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Valentino was arrested on University Drive, not far from where festivities were taking place to mark the end of the school year at Kent State University on Sherman Street. Police Blotter: Kent State Student Faces Burglary Charge, Drunk 'Drive-Thru' Arrest

String of burglaries, several theft arrests occur in past week

Drunk 'drive-thru' arrest A North Royalton man trying to order from a drive-thru without a car was arrested and charged with underage drinking. Kent police charged Scott M. Taylor, 20, with prohibitions, a first-degree misdemeanor, after Taylor tried to order at the Taco Bell drive-thru by walking to the service window, according to a police report. Employees told Taylor the drive-thru is for cars only and said he had to leave, but Taylor returned a short time later and tried to order again by knocking on the drive-thru window, according to a police report.
