Trail remains open while construction starts on new bridge
The entrance to The Portage Hike and Bike Trail near the intersection of Crain Avenue and Lake Street will be closed for construction of the new pedestrian bridge. The path extends from near the old Crain Avenue Bridge northeast towards Beckwith Orchards. City officials said the trail itself will remain open, but users will not be able to access it from the trail entrance near the old bridge. The old bridge is in the process of being demolished to make way for a new pedestrian-only bridge that will stand in its place. The trail entrance will remain closed until further notice throughout the project, which is expected to wrap up late this year.
