Tattoo Parlor Plans Delayed by Parking

Art and Heart Gallery proposes tattoo, piercing parlor on South Water Street

Plans to open a new tattoo and piercing parlor and art gallery on South Water Street have been delayed due to parking arrangements. Ravenna resident Jason Miller asked the Kent Planning Commission for a conditional use certificate this week in order to open Art and Heart Gallery at 707 S. Water St. Miller said he caters to high-end clients by appointment only. "There are ample parking spaces to meet the requirements, however … the position of the parking spaces does not sit well with backing out into the road," Miller said. The site plan for the business, at an existing building, shows eight parking spaces where six are required by city code. Lane Closures on South Water Downtown Today

Pavement work will create intermittent closures Tuesday, Wednesday

Portions of South Water Street will be closed downtown today and Wednesday to allow for pavement repairs. Between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. lane restrictions will take place on the section of street between Haymaker Parkway and Erie Street. No parking will be allowed on this section of South Water Street during this period. All lanes and parking will reopen each day after 3:30 p.m. The area will be marked and staffed by flaggers, but drivers should avoid the area or expect delays.

The southbound, western lane of South Water Street will close starting Wednesday for curb work related to the new CVS building. The lane closures are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily in the area of 500 S. Water St. Traffic flaggers will maintain traffic.

Water Street to Close Sunday Downtown

Overnight closure for water main work

A portion of South Water Street will close downtown this weekend for water main construction. South Water Street, between College Avenue and Main Street, will close Sunday starting at 4 p.m. The section of road is scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. Monday, June 4. Access to businesses will be maintained during the road closure, but no on-street parking or through traffic will be permitted. The city recommended detour is to use Franklin Avenue to get to College Street from either Main or Summit streets.

A portion of South Water Street will close near Summit Street starting Monday. The two southbound lanes of South Water Street will close in the area of the CVS pharmacy, which is being demolished so a larger store can be built in its place. The paving was originally scheduled to start yesterday. The lanes are expected to be closed only for Monday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic will be maintained using the turn lane.

South Water to Close in Front of CVS Starting Thursday

Southbound lanes will close for pharmacy expansion work

The two southbound lanes of South Water Street will close starting this morning for underground utility work associated with the CVS expansion. The southbound lanes will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Traffic will be maintained using the turning lane. Last week, workers finished demolishing two houses south of the existing store to make way for the new building, which will include a drive-thru pharmacy. The city announced the lane closure on the same day it announced the closing of South DePeyster Street from Erie Street to Haymaker Parkway for construction of the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center. Lane Closures Continue for South Water Downtown

Work expected to continue until Friday, Dec. 16

Lane restrictions and parking closures on South Water Street downtown will continue at least until Friday, Dec. 16. The city notified residents and media of the third extension for underground utility work on South Water Street between Erie Street and Haymaker Parkway this afternoon. Underground utility work for the downtown redevelopment project is creating lane restrictions and closing on-street parking on that stretch of the road from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. All lanes and parking open after 5 p.m. and on weekends. The utility work initially was expected to wrap up before Thanksgiving.

Underground utility work that is closing lanes and parking on South Water Street will continue at least until next Friday. The announced the second extension of the lane closures Thursday. The work, and lane closures, were initially expected to finish by Thanksgiving Day. The construction work is restricting lane usage on South Water Street from Erie Street to Haymaker Parkway and closing parking on that section of the street between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during week days. All lanes and parking will be open after 5 p.m. daily and on weekends.
