Snapshot: New Cornice for Hometown Bank Building

Facade work part of new signs, paint and other updates

Workers installed the new cornice for the Hometown Bank building during the Thanksgiving week in downtown Kent. The city issued a building permit for the work in September. The bank also has changed its sign color.

The actual classification is spice or vegetable beers is the broad style.” In his opinion Ohio is the leader of the spice beers as far as Christmas ales go. A Cut Above Celebrates 30 Years in Kent

Karen Shaw has seen a lot of salon trends come and go from the seats in her shop, A Cut Above, on North Mantua Street. The 1976 Theodore Roosevelt High School graduate first started working as a stylist — just two days after graduating — for Pat DiMauro at what was then DiMauro's Kut and Kurl. "Six and a half years later he said he was moving to Dallas, TX, and either I had to find a new job or buy the place," Shaw said. "So I bought the place. And I changed the name so it was the first in the phonebook. "Basically I've worked here non-stop since 1976," she said. Of course there was the weekly sit, set and style crowd. Newdle Bar to Hold Job Fair Saturday

New downtown bar, eatery looking to hire 30 people to start

Kent jobseekers looking for restaurant and bar employment can start their search at a downtown job fair for Newdle Bar, a bar and restaurant set to open in the new Davey Tree Building. The combination Asian restaurant and bar will hold open interviews and accept applications and resumés Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the storefront at 295 S. Water St. Josalyn Barton, manager for Newdle Bar, said they're looking to hire 30 people to start and potentially 10 more in the coming months. The bar is scheduled to open in early December. "You can come in and almost like take a number," she said. "We’re going to do 10-minute interviews and collect resumés."
