Suspect Arrested in Silver Meadows Shooting

Dustin Dent was arraigned this morning on a charge of attempted murder of 17-year-old boy.

A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a 17-year-old teenager during an early morning incident last Wednesday in the Silver Meadows neighborhood. Dustin A. Dent, 24, who police refer to as homeless, turned himself in late Saturday evening to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office in Medina, where he was picked up by Kent Police and returned to Kent. Dent was arraigned this morning in Kent Municipal Court on a charge of attempted murder. He is currently being held at the Portage County jail on a $500,000 bond. Kent Police Capt. Jayme Cole said an investigation led Kent Police to obtain a warrant for Dent’s arrest late last week. A search of Dent's name in Portage County Court online records show numerous entries dating to 2006 …

Silver Meadows Shooting Victim Recovering

Kent Police detectives are following leads, but still seeking tips from the public.

The teenager who was shot several times early Wednesday morning in the Silver Meadows neighborhood is on the road to recovery, according to Kent Police. "The last information I received is that he is going to survive – and we’re very glad for that," said Kent Police Capt. Jayme Cole. Police scanner traffic after the 12:21 a.m. incident Wednesday included a call for the Kent Fire Department to respond to 782 Silver Meadows Blvd. for a victim that had been shot in the head. Teen Shot Multiple Times in Silver Meadows Neighborhood

Kent Police seeking public's help in finding armed suspect who ran from scene early this morning.

Kent Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man suspected of shooting a teenager multiple times early this morning in the Silver Meadows neighborhood. Police received a call at 12:21 a.m. Wednesday for a report of shots fired. They discovered a male, 17, at 782 Silver Meadows Blvd. with multiple gunshot wounds. According to police radio traffic, the victim had been shot in the head. The suspect fled westbound on foot armed with a handgun, said police. Officers could be heard on the scanner searching along Silver Meadows Boulevard, the intersecting Carol, Denise and Anita drives, Carlisle Court, as well as at nearby Al Lease Park. Silver Meadows Shooting Victim Identified

Charles Johnson, 40, of Garth Drive shot Friday

Kent Police have released the identity of the man shot during an apparent robbery on Silver Meadows Boulevard early Friday morning. Charles Johnson, 40, of 1207 Garth Drive, was shot in the torso in a reported robbery attempt at an apartment in the 900 block of Silver Meadows Boulevard, a few blocks from his home, just after midnight Friday. Kent Police Capt. Jayme Cole said Johnson remains hospitalized. No further information on his condition was available. "We’re still looking for the suspect," Cole said. The unknown suspect, a light-skinned black male in his early twenties, shot Johnson and then fled on foot, according to police. Man Shot at Silver Meadows; Suspect Sought

Early morning shooting Friday in 900 block of Silver Meadows Boulevard

Kent Police are looking for a shooting suspect after a man was shot on Silver Meadows Boulevard early this morning. Police responded to an apartment in the 900 block of Silver Meadows Blvd. at 12:14 a.m. Friday for a report of a 40-year-old man with a gun shot wound to the torso, according to police. The Kent Fire Department transported the victim to Akron City Hospital. Kent Police Lt. Bob Treharn said the victim was last listed in the intensive care unit at the hospital. The victim has not been identified. Update: Accused Kent Murderer Competent, Will Stand Trial

Leonard Armstrong was found sane and competent to stand trial by a court-ordered sanity evaluation

The Kent man accused of stabbing another Kent man to death this summer will stand trial for the crime. Leonard Armstrong, 49, of 112 Sherman St., has been ruled sane and competent enough to stand trial in the stabbing death of Jeffrey A. Sipes, 57, who was found dead by Kent police in his Silver Meadows apartment June 6. At a hearing this morning, Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman confirmed the results of Armstrong's sanity evaluation with his attorney, Frank Beane, and Portage County Assistant Prosecutor Eugene Muldowney. Both attorneys agreed to the finding. "The defendant did know the lawfulness of his acts on the day in question," Muldowney said. One Man Arrested in Silver Meadows Robbery

Second suspect remains at large

One man has been arrested in a gunpoint robbery in the Silver Meadows Apartment complex one month ago. Kent police arrested Marid B. Asefi, 22, of Akron, and charged him in the June 12 robbery of a woman near 1214 Anita Drive. The woman told police she was approached by two men on a Sunday afternoon who asked for a cigarette. The men then flashed a gun, demanded her purse and fled into the complex. The woman told police one of the suspects held a black handgun to her head. Kent police arrested Asefi Monday, but they filed a criminal complaint against him and got a warrant for his arrest one day after the crime. The second suspect remains at-large. Kent police investigating after woman reported robbery

Two men robbed a woman at gunpoint in the Silver Meadows Apartment complex Sunday afternoon, according to Kent police. A black male and a second man possibly of Middle Eastern descent approached a woman near 1210 Anita Drive and asked her for a cigarette at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The men then demanded the woman's purse and fled on foot farther into the apartment complex, according to police. The woman told police one of the suspects held a black handgun to her head. The suspects were described as: a black male in his early 20s wearing a black hoodie, and a Middle Eastern man about 5 feet 10 inches tall, also in his early 20s, wearing a black hoodie.
