Steubenville Rape Case Puts Spotlight on Teen Accepted to Kent State

University officials gathering information on high school student set to wrestle as a Golden Flash in fall 2013. Teen played for football team at center of rape case.

Kent State University is reviewing the status of an incoming freshman athlete because he was a member of the Steubenville, OH high school football team, two members of which have been charged in connection with a notorious rape case. Kent State officials are closely watching the case, in which two Steubenville football players are set to go to trial next month on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl in August 2012. Of interest to Kent State is whether the case expands to charges against other members of the Steubenville Big Red football team. 2 Bobcats Earn Adam Hamilton Scholarship

Eli Kepner and Kristen Maynard each awarded $10,000 via scholarship in honor of fallen Kent soldier

2012 Roosevelt High School graduates Eli Kepner and Kristen Maynard were announced as the 2012 recipients of the Adam S. Hamilton Memorial Academic and Athletic Scholarship Fund in a ceremony at the high school recently. Kepner and Maynard were each awarded a $10,000 scholarship (in increments of $2,500 per year) to be used at an accredited four-year college or university. Both students have been accepted to attend Ohio University in Athens, OH, and have enrolled for the fall. Kepner plans to major in journalism and Maynard is considering the sciences in preparation for medical school. The Adam S. Concert Benefits new Donna and Jack Crews Choral Scholarship

Scholarship benefit concert March 31

The community is invited to a special evening of music on March 31, 2012. The event is A Musical Affair, a Kent Roosevelt Choral Alumni Showcase to benefit the Donna and Jack Crews Choral Scholarship. Kent State Student one of two Minority Scholarship Winners

Pre-nursing major Delcy Eskridge receives Robinson Memorial Hospital scholarship

The Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce two recipients of the Dr. Howard B. Minott and Dr. Melodie Morgan-Minott Minorities in Healthcare Career Scholarship. The two recipients are Delcy T. Eskridge, of Ravenna, and Shealanda M. Lewis, of Akron. Delcy Eskridge is in the bachelor of science pre-nursing program at Kent State University. She has been a patient care technician in the Step Down Unit at Robinson Memorial Hospital since 2010. Delcy was born in Nicaragua and moved, at the age of five with her family, to the United States to escape political and military unrest. “My parents would often tell me of the opportunities that America has to offer if you are willing to work hard towards receiving an education. …
