VIDEO: Construction on Kent State Hotel Under Way
New hotel and conference center set to open in spring 2013
Just days after getting their building permit, workers started construction on the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Kent. The city signed off on construction plans for the new hotel in November, and this week site work began for the new 95-room, four-story hotel, which is set to open in the spring of 2013. The $15 million facility will stand on the triangle-shaped piece of land bordered by Erie Street, Haymaker Parkway and South DePeyster Street. The hotel will include a 300-seat banquet center. The building will be owned by Downtown Kent Hotel LLC, which is formally a partnership of the Kent State Foundation and Columbus-based The Pizzuti Companies, which is led by Kent native and Kent State alum Ron Pizzuti.
