Nominate Your Favorite Before It's Too Late: Readers' Choice

Readers' Choice Nominations end Monday at 11:59 p.m.

Monday is the last day of nominations for our 25 categories in the new Patch Readers' Choice competition.  If you've put it off, don't delay beyond Monday, July 9, at 11:59 pm or you will have lost your chance. Your favorite might not be included if you don't nominate them. How will you find the place to nominate? Go to the top of this page, pause your cursor on News and slide over to the words "Readers' Choice." Click on that and you'll find all 25 categories in which you can nominate.   Any nominations made after the deadline will not be considered in the contest. Check back later this month for our polls for each of these categories and you can vote for your favorite.

Readers' Choice Takes a Holiday

Our weekly feature is undergoing a renovation and will return in a few weeks.

Summer's nearly here and Readers' Choice is going on vacation! You won't see the weekly feature, in which readers nominate and vote for the best in your community, for a few weeks. We plan to revamp and relaunch the feature after a short hiatus. Thanks to everyone who has nominated and voted in Readers' Choice. Watch Kent Patch for the new contest in the coming weeks. And happy summer!

Best Place to Host a Kid's Birthday Party: This Week's Readers' Choice

Give us your tips on kid-friendly venues for birthday celebrations!

You could do it the old-fashioned way: bake a cake, decorate the house, buy ice cream, make a punch, set a festive table and put up a pinata. But if you have your child's birthday party away from your home, you often can combine good food and a fun activity for a memorable occasion -- not to mention a little less stress for Mom or Dad. So this week's Readers' Choice wants to know: Where's your favorite place to host a kid's birthday party? A local pizza joint? A kid-friendly gym? What about a tour of the local candy factory or ice cream parlor? Beginning today -- Sunday, May 27 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to have a child's birthday party. Give us your recommendation in the …

Best Place for Live Music: Readers' Choice

Be it a rock 'n' roll band, solo violinist or jazz trio, live music energizes your outing.

There is no music like live music ... a live performance can be the background to a pleasant dinner or the focal point of an evening out. This week we want to know: where in town is the best place to hear live music? Is there a restaurant with strolling mariachi band? Or perhaps a harpist that plays at tea. Or maybe a rollicking rock venue that's a great place to socialize. Beginning today -- Sunday, May 20 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to hear live music. Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, May 24 and vote! We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 25 and …

Besides your backyard, tell us what restaurant has the best dining outdoors.

The weather is shaping up for outdoor dining with family and friends. Eating outdoors is a great way to welcome in summer while enjoying a good meal and relaxing. Beginning today — Sunday, May 13 — and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to go with outdoor patios. Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, May 17 and vote! We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 18 and announce it in a story on …

Best Staycation Destinations: This Week's Readers' Choice

Where in town do you go to have some fun on your days off?

For many of us, going on vacation doesn't necessarily mean taking a trip. Going on vacation can simply mean chillin' at home -- going out to eat, doing some fun things in town and maybe getting a few household chores done. We're so glad someone invented a name for this kind of non-travelin' vacation: The Staycation. This week's Readers' Choice focuses on Best Staycation Destinations. Beginning today -- Monday, May 7 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to go while on a staycation. Where to go on a staycation? A local putt-putt course ... the historical society ... a bowling alley ... the spa ... the video arcade. These are places where you can relax and have a little fun. Give us your …

Best Spot for Mother's Day Brunch: This Week's Readers' Choice

Where do you like to go to show off Mom and eat some good food?

Giving Mom breakfast in bed on Mother's Day might be a bit of a challenge for some of us. Either we're not great cooks, or we don't have a large enough bed tray. (Really, Mom doesn't care. We're certain she would love anything you did for her on Mother's Day!) The alternative is to take Mom out for brunch. So many advantages: the kitchen stays clean; you get to dress up; and you have the opportunity to show off Mom. Plus you get to eat some good food, too. So this week's Readers' Choice focuses on Best Spot for Mother's Day Brunch. Beginning today -- Monday, April 30 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, we'll be asking for your recommendations for who has the best Mother's Day brunch spot in town. This would be a place where you can get…

The Best Florist In Town: Readers' Choice

Who's got the best bouquets, planters and floral arrangements?

Local florists are there to witness many of life's milestones: a birth, a wedding or an anniversary; a passing or a promotion; an apology, a fancy dinner or prom. With prom and graduation season upon us -- not to mention Mother's Day on May 13 -- we're thinking about the power of the flower. And did you know? This week is Administrative Professionals Week (formerly known as Professional Secretaries Week), a time to remind your secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals that you can't do without them. So this week's Readers' Choice focuses on florists. Beginning today -- Monday, April 23 and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, we'll be asking for your recommendations for who is the …
