Pill Dealers get Jail, Probation

Third Kentite charged in drug sweep yet to be sentenced

A Kent man and woman charged in a countywide drug sweep have been sentenced to jail and probation terms while a third Kentite has yet to be sentenced. Gary Harris, 42, of 717 Silver Meadows Blvd., was sentenced to 11 months in prison recently by Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman after pleading guilty to selling prescription painkillers. He was one of three Kentites caught up in a November sweep of northern Portage County by the Portage County Drug Task Force that netted 25 arrests. Gary Harris pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony, prior to his sentencing in January. Theresa Harris, 35, also of 717 Silver Meadows Blvd., was sentenced to five years probation by Pittman in February after pleading guilty…

County Drug Task Force arrests 5 in Franklin Township

Editor's note: this story originally included the incorrect address of the location of the methamphetamine lab. Incorrect information was provided by authorities. Four Kent-area residents were among those arrested by the Portage County Drug Task Force on charges of operating a meth lab in Franklin Township just east of Kent. Task force agents uncovered the lab at 6490 Cherry Lane in the Village of Brady Lake, which is slightly north and east of Kent. Officers arrested: Michael D. Kentites Arrested in County Drug Sweep for Selling Pills

Sheriff's office arrests 25 in sweep of northern Portage County

Three Kent residents were among the 25 people arrested by the Portage County Drug Task Force in a sweep of northern Portage County earlier this month. The three Kent residents arrested, and their charges, are: Theresa Harris is accused of selling percocet and oxymorphone, both in the presence of a juvenile, and oxycodone. Gary Harris was charged with selling oxycodone. All three drugs are prescribed painkillers. Both Harris' were charged with selling the pills in less than the bulk amount. They have both requested public defenders to represent them at their trials, which are scheduled for December, according to Portage County court records. Woman Suspected of Drug Distribution in Kent Arrested

Five-month drug task force probe results in arrest of Etta Mae Wilson of Brady Lake.

A Brady Lake woman suspected of distributing drugs in Kent and other nearby towns has been arrested by the Portage County Drug Task Force and charged with cocaine trafficking. On July 12 task force agents arrested Etta Mae Wilson, 42, of 6385 Westshore Drive in Brady Lake, along with Paris Darnell Miller, 21, of Akron, and charged them with trafficking in cocaine with a juvenile present, a fourth-degree felony, according to Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak. The arrest took place at Mill and Romito streets in Ravenna. Doak said in a press release that Wilson was in possession of heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs at the time of her arrest. Two Kent Businesses Raided by Drug Task Force

Agents seized 'analog drugs' from Puff-N-Stuff and Midnight Oasis.

Following a month-long investigation, the Portage County Drug Task Force executed search warrants this week at three area businesses, including Puff-N-Stuff and Midnight Oasis in Kent, according to Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak. Task force agents, along with members of the sheriff’s office, Kent Police and Streetsboro Police, were searching for any chemical structurally similar to a controlled substance, also known as an analog drug. They are commonly referred to as Spice, K-2 and Bath Salts. The third business searched by the task force was Twilight Boutique in Streetsboro. Two Kentites Among Six Adults Arrested in Brimfield Meth-Lab Raid

Two Kent residents were among six adults arrested Friday when the Portage County Drug Task Force busted an operational meth lab at a Brimfield home. Charges are pending against one of the five juveniles present at the house during the raid. The raid was the result of a month-long investigation into the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine at the 4396 Edson Road house, Portage County Sheriff David Doak stated Monday in a press release. Doak said task force members prepared a search warrant to look for evidence of items used in the manufacturing of meth. I have yet to see an article anywhere saying that only 4 of those six were charged. that two of them were unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time. A lesson learned Im sure. Longcoy Avenue Man Arrested For Trafficking Crack Cocaine

Portage County Drug Task Force finds loaded handgun, $1,000 cash in home of Ricky Davis.

Portage County Sheriff David Doak announced today the Jan. 13 arrest of Longcoy Avenue resident Ricky Davis by Portage County Drug Task Force agents after a four-month investigation for trafficking in crack cocaine. Task force agents conducted a search warrant of Davis’ residence at 712 Longcoy Ave. and recovered a loaded handgun, drug packaging supplies and more than $1,000 in cash. Doak said in a press release that the drug task force has arrested Davis in the past for trafficking in crack cocaine.
