The same tax increase failed in November 2012. Kent State University and the city of Kent have been selected as the winners of the Larry Abernathy Award from the International Town-Gown Association (ITGA). The award honors the town-gown relationship that best represents the spirit of ITGA. The award was announced at the spring Bowman Breakfast, Kent's semi-annual meeting and celebration of town-gown relations. “This presentation best exemplified a town and university working together cohesively and promoting partnership and resources between all entities including the town, university, leaders, students, faculty and staff, neighborhood residents and businesses,” said Beth Bagwell, ITGA program director. The Celtic Club's St. Pet's Day Pet Parade in downtown Kent — postponed due to weather on March 16 — has been rescheduled. It will now be called the St. Pet's Day Crooked River Pet Walk and will take place at Fred Fuller Park in Kent at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. Participants and their pets will walk along the Cuyahoga River pathway from Fred Fuller Park to Tannery Park and back. St. Pet's Day is in memory of WNIR radio host Tom Erickson, a strong pet advocate. The Celtic Club is inviting pet lovers and their pets to come to Fred Fuller Park in Kent and to please bring donations of dog andcat food and cat litter for humane andpet rescue groups. The Portage County Sheriff's Office needs your help in finding a Kent man who is on the latest 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. The sheriff's office has identified Jose L. Montanez, II, 30, last known address of Kent, as being one of the county's 10 most wanted fugitives. Montanez is wanted on warrants related to a burglary charge. The sheriff's office advises that people with information on fugitives should not try to apprehend them.
