No Increase in State Funding for Kent City Schools

There is no increase to state funding for the district over the next two years.

The good news for Kent City Schools is it won't lose funding from the state over the next two years.  The bad news is it won't get any more, either. The district is expected receive the same amount of state funding in 2014 and 2015, according to preliminary numbers from the Ohio Department of Education. In 2013 the district received $11.6 million from the state which will remain the same over the next two years if the state budget is approved as it is. The specific numbers for school funding in Gov. John Kasich's budget were released on Wednesday afternoon.

The teacher waited until the next morning (Feb. 1) to report the threat, saying she wanted to check with the school’s administration on how to proceed. The Davey Parent Teacher Organization held a meeting Wednesday night to discuss the threat and the district's response. A…

The principle stated she knew of the matter within the hour, how it transpired after that remains questionable but what about superintendent notification immediately following and then lockdown until authoities make an assessment. …   more ›

Back to School: What to Know

Classes began this week for Kent grade-school students

With school back in session, here are some reminders to update families who want to ensure students are ready for the classroom. The Kent City School District mailed individualized information packets last week to registered students throughout the district.
