Demand for Space in Davey Building Tied to Parking

Developer waiting on opening of transit center to finalize lease options

Expansive new commercial space on the second floor of the Davey Tree Building in downtown Kent is awaiting the opening of PARTA's new Kent Central Gateway transit center to land its first tenant. The space, built by Cleveland developer Fairmount Properties as part of the downtown redevelopment, is sandwiched between the third-floor offices of the Davey Resource Group and first-floor retail operations for Panini's, Insomnia Cookies and Yogurt Vi. Adam Branscomb, project manager for Fairmount Properties, said the space remains vacant until parking for a potential tenant's clients and employees becomes available downtown. Chris, I agree with you that there shouldn't be dedicated spots in the parking garage. But I don't interpret this article to mean that Fairmount is waiting for dedicated spots in the parking garage. I interpret it to mean that they are waiting for the parking garage to open so that their new, prospective tenants have a place to park, since they don't have anymore dedicated spots available behind …   more ›

90 employees from Davey Resource Group, Davey Tree's main offices to move in starting Monday

On Monday, about 90 employees with the Davey Resource Group and The Davey Tree Expert Company officially move into their new home in downtown Kent. That’s when the new Davey Tree building at the corner of Haymaker Parkway and South Water Street opens to the public. The move marks a return of sorts for the firm, which had offices downtown in the early 1900s until 1985 when the corporate offices relocated to the existing headquarters on S.R. 43 just north of Theodore Roosevelt High School.
