400 Gather for Brunch Bunch in Kent

Annual fundraiser on Thanksgiving Day supports local charities

With gratitude the theme of yesterday’s holiday, an estimated 400 area residents of all ages gathered from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kent American Legion for an annual fundraiser to ensure others can have something to be thankful for. Held each year on Thanksgiving morning, Brunch Bunch raises money to help feed those in need. Through its auction of donated items and services, as well as a $3 admission fee, the event raised $37,000 in 2011 and more than $34,000 was raised Thursday. “We had another great year,” event chairwoman Michelle Hartman said. “Over the past 43 years, there’s probably been nearly $400,000 raised by the Brunch Bunch.” All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to four programs: Kent Social Services’ hot meals; The Center of…

Smoked Turkeys Still Available for Brunch Bunch

Proceeds benefit local charities

There are still about a dozen or so smoked turkeys available for Thanksgiving courtesy Cajun Dave's and Water Street Tavern in support of the 44th Annual Brunch Bunch charity auction. Mike Beder at Water Street and Brian Bower at Cajun Dave's are offering turkeys cooked in the restaurant's smoker for $40 with all proceeds benefiting Brunch Bunch, which supports local charities with a live auction set for 8 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day at the Kent American Legion. Beder said they're selling 50 total turkeys and they have about a dozen or so left. Annual Brunch Bunch Auction Supports Charities

Thanksgiving Day fundraiser features Goodyear blimp ride; Kent State men's basketball team members as guest auctioneers

This year's annual Brunch Bunch Thanksgiving Day charity fundraiser will feature some unique auction items: including a College World Series clubhouse chair signed by Kent State men's baseball coach Scott Stricklin. The fundraiser marks its 44th year supporting local charities with the auction set for 8 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day at the Kent American Legion. The live auction features items donated by local businesses and organizations and features guest auctioneers from the Kent State men's basketball team and their coach, Rob Senderoff, along with Kent State men's golf coach Herb Page.
