Watch party for game on ESPN kicks off Kent State basketball season
The men's Golden Flashes basketball team started the 2011 season with a win against West Virginia today — and an ESPN national broadcast. In an upset, Kent State beat the West Virginia Mountaineers 70-60 Tuesday morning in West Virginia, and a crowd of fans was watching at the Water Street Tavern. Kent State Coach Rob Senderoff said after the game his team adjusted at half time to the jitters of playing a "big-time team" and came out strong in the second half. "It’s exciting, but we've got to move on to the next one," Senderoff said. Jarekious D. Bradley charged in altercation with ex-girlfriend
A member of the Kent State University men's basketball team faces charges of burglary and criminal damaging after an early morning altercation Wednesday with his ex-girlfriend. Jarekious D. Bradley, 20, of Memphis, TN, has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and one count of criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor, after barging in to his ex-girlfriend's apartment early Wednesday morning, according to the Portage County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office received a call from Bradley's ex-girlfriend, who authorities did not identify, claiming Bradley forced his way into her apartment and demanded money he said she owed him. Kent State announces new men's head basketball coach at press conference Thursday
Why fix what’s not broken? Kent State formally announced Thursday afternoon it hired Rob Senderoff, former coach Geno Ford’s top assistant, to be the next men’s basketball team coach. “It became clear fairly early in our coaching search that the most-qualified candidate and the best choice to lead our program to even greater success in the future was Rob Senderoff,” said Joel Nielsen, Kent State director of athletics. “Rob has been one of the cornerstones behind our long tradition of winning.” Named the No. 4 best Mid-Major assistant by The Hoop Scoop, Senderoff was the favorite for the job, especially considering the team’s previous track record in coaching hires. The university held a press conference today to talk about head basketball coach Geno Ford's decision to leave
Joel Nielsen found out he had lost his men’s basketball coach Sunday night via the Bradley University website. The Kent State Athletics director said in a press conference Monday afternoon he never had a chance to counter-offer before two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year Geno Ford accepted the head coaching position at Bradley in Peoria, Ill. “My final conversation with coach Ford was around 5:30 (Sunday) afternoon,” Nielsen said. “At that point, there wasn’t a formal offer and there obviously wasn’t an acceptance. Kent State students weigh in on the men's basketball team's odds of winning the MAC Tournament
The Kent State men's basketball team is riding high as the No. 1 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament this year. Kent Patch interviewed some of the team's student fans to see what they think the team's chances are of winning the tournament. Over the next few days, we'll be posting their thoughts on the team's odds. The Flashes advance to play in the MAC Tournament Semifinals tonight in Cleveland at 9:30 p.m.

Kent clinches No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament
The Kent State Golden Flashes beat rival Akron Zips in a close game at the MACC tonight. With the 79-68 win, the Kent State men's basketball team clinches the No. 1 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament — the stepping stone to the NCAA Tournament. Forward Justin Greene led the Flashes with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Greene also scored his 1,000th point as a Flash. Check back with Kent Patch for complete coverage from tonight's game.
