Underage drinking charges account for more than half of arrests during annual holiday celebration
Police officers from Kent Police and surrounding departments arrested three times the number of people during this year's unofficial Halloween bash compared with last year. A total 64 arrests were made, including four juveniles, between Saturday and Sunday by the city's police department. Add to that 30 arrests made on the Kent State University campus by university police, and a total 94 people were arrested or issued summons on charges this past weekend. Michquel Penn, community resource officer for Kent State Police, said campus police only made three physical arrests but issued 27 summons between Saturday and Sunday. 11 students among 33 arrested during weekend block party that spiraled out of control
Officials at Kent State University are asking students and others who attended "College Fest" to help police identify those who broke the law or created "a dangerous situation." The university posted a request for assistance on it's home page Tuesday afternoon asking people who may be able to identify those shown in videos and photos posted online committing crimes to contact Kent Police. "College Fest 2012 activities turned into a dangerous situation for participants as numerous fights broke out, which also included bottle throwing," the university's statement read. A clear but chilly night brought huge crowds downtown Saturday
Kent Police arrested 21 people during Halloween festivities in downtown Kent Saturday night, NewsChannel 5 reported. That figure is about half those arrested last year, when police arrested 47 people on charges ranging from underage drinking to disorderly conduct. This year's figure excludes those arrested on campus by Kent State University police, who last year arrested 53 people. The clear skies attracted throngs downtown, who filled the sidewalks and bars from 9 p.m. well past midnight.

Four students at Kent State University were arrested this weekend as hundreds gathered in Kent to celebrate the end of the school year. Kent police arrested 16 people on charges ranging from underage drinking to disorderly conduct and drunk driving late Saturday and early Sunday, according to police reports. The number of arrests is far less than the 65 arrested last year on the weekend just before finals started at Kent State. Holiday relatively calm with exception of underage drinking, disorderly conduct arrests
Eighteen people were arrested — mostly on drunken disorderly charges — during the St. Patrick's Day holiday celebrations in Kent Thursday. Kent Police Chief Michelle Lee described the holiday as relatively quiet. "Quiet for a St. Patrick's Day, for a Thursday," she said. "We had our share of arrests. But overall the population, the student population, the partying population, behaved themselves." Lee said the department's officers didn't encounter any major issues but did have to sort out a few fights. "But that's to be expected," Lee said. "So overall it was fairly quiet."
