Portage County Lt. Gregory A. Johnson said Monday morning that the investigation continues for a 45-year-old Norton man reported missing by his wife on May 15. Sheriff David Doak is requesting the public's assistance in locating Jeffrey J. Hathaway from Norton. Hathaway is described as a white male, 6’ 02’, 220 lbs, blonde hair, blue eyes and no facial hair at the time. He was last seen on Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. During the early morning hours of Thursday, May 16 Hathaway’s vehicle was found in a parking lot at the Berlin Reservoir Wildlife Area located on Fewtown Road in Deerfield Township, Portage County, according to a prepared statement. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Demetrice Cannon.
Demetrice Cannon, 28, is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland Police for aggravated murder. It is alleged that Cannon shot and killed a man after an argument during a dice game, according to a press release. The incident took place earlier this month on May 2. Cannon is a black male standing approximately 5’05” and weighing 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Cannon is suspected to be hiding out somewhere in the Cleveland area. He also had a previous address near the 1200 block of E. 80th St. in Cleveland. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the checkpoint it announced earlier this week was will be in Portage County Saturday evening. Proposed 0.25 percent income tax increase would pay to build new police station, would expire in 2038
It's official. Kent voters will again cast ballots on a proposed 0.25 percent income tax increase that would pay to build a new Kent Police station. Kent City Council voted Wednesday to send the issue back to the ballot in what was council's final action on the issue. Now, one year after voters rejected the idea of a tax hike to build a new police department they will be asked the same question. In November 2012 voters rejected Issue 11, which would have raised Kent's income tax from 2 percent to 2.25 percent to pay to build an estimated $18.36 million police building in the Day Street block. Kent residents cast 4,240 votes for the tax increase and 5,163 against the tax. There are two differences in what voters rejected in November 2012 …

Dontez White is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Lakewood Police for drug trafficking and firearms offenses, according to Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. White, 38, has a significant criminal history, officials said, and should be considered armed and dangerous. White is a black male standing approximately 5’06” and weighing 400 pounds. The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. Kent Police broke up a nuisance party recently at The Province at Kent student apartments on South Lincoln Street. Anthony L. Vadini, II, 22, of 1503 Whitehall Blvd., was charged with permitting a nuisance party, an unclassified misdemeanor, and failure to disperse from a nuisance party, also an unclassified misdemeanor, following a party late on May 4 that carried into Sunday, May 5. Vadini was arrested at 609 S. Lincoln St., The Province at Kent, in apartment C-302 at just after midnight May 4. A student at Kent State University, Vadini pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Portage County Municipal Court. Two men have been charged with teasing one of the Kent Police Department K9 officers in a span of two days. Gage B. Daniel, 22, of 2523 Meloy Road, was arrested Sunday and charged with harassing one of the department's police dogs. Daniel was charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for allegedly teasing the dog outside Water Street Tavern. According to Daniel's criminal complaint, he was charged with recklessly teasing or striking a police dog. Fahad Alajlan, 21, of 185 Currie Hall Parkway, was charged with the same offense hours earlier on Saturday near the AMETEK building downtown at 100 E.
