United Way Sets $1 Million Goal in Portage County

2011 target follows missed goal in 2010

United Way of Portage County set its 2011 campaign goal at $1,040,000 for the community campaign. In 2010 the United Way raised $1,010,000 – an increase over 2009, but short for its 2010 goal.

“This year’s campaign will determine our ability to rebound from past losses and will be crucial for the programs we fund," said Steve Kleiber, president and CEO of United Way of Portage County. “The 2011 effort has started off on a successful note with our annual AMETEK/Tree City 5k run in Kent, and the early campaigns are off to a good start.”

Forty-three programs are funded by United Way of Portage County, including United Way’s 211 Portage.

Events will take place over the next month to kick off the campaign, including the annual Day of Caring Thursday, Sept. 8, and the annual United Way golf outing sponsored by Meaden & Moore at Windmill Lakes Country Club Friday, Sept 23.

If you are interested in participating in these events, contact Maureen Turner at 330-297-1424 ext. 110.

The United Way is accepting donations for this year’s campaign by calling Liz Ziots at 330-297-1424 ext 113., or via e-mail at lizz@uwportage.org.
