Food Drive by Kent State Health College to Fight Hunger

Students collecting food for Kent Social Services food pantry this semester

Graduate students from ’s College of Public Health will be collecting food and personal care items for Kent Social Service’s food pantry (The Lord’s Pantry) during the spring 2012 semester.

Donations will be collected through a community “bag drop.” On Thursday, March 29, student volunteers will begin making rounds through areas of the Kent community to distribute paper bags donated from the grocery store in Franklin Township.

Each bag will contain a flyer with instructions about the food drive. Residents are asked to donate any non-perishable food and personal care items they can.

Students will return on Saturday, March 31, to collect the bags of donated goods and deliver them to The Lord’s Pantry. Residents are asked to leave their bag of donated items outside their home in a location visible from the street. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

For community members whose homes do not receive a bag, donations may be taken directly to The Lord’s Pantry at 1066 S. Water St. in Kent.

The College of Public Health Food Drive project’s goal is to fill a 400-cubic foot U-Haul truck with food and personal care items by April 20, 2012. The College of Public Health Food Drive is led by Dr. Deric Kenne, Assistant Professor of Health Policy & Management at Kent State University.
