Why are you ok with Obama's 63,000 troops still in Afghanistan?

The late American hero, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Hey America, did you forget you are fighting a war in Afghanistan? And what happened to the “watchdog media” and anti-war movement? Why is it so quiet out there nowadays?

I ask my anti-war friends, why have you lost your voice? Are you going dark inside? Your silence regarding President Barrack H. Obama’s war is sick, sad and telling. There’s not enough trash cans in all of America to hold the hypocrisy spewing out of your ears.

What happened, has the killing of babies, innocents and soldiers in your name become enjoyable to you because Obama is in charge? Being a warmonger is ok now?

What happened to the righteous people I used to have breakfast with who badmouthed former President Bush’s illegal war crimes, then extolled a life of non-violence and peace. It seems like just yesterday that we ate overpriced eggs and toast together, then gathered to remove trash from the banks of the Cuyahoga River, all the while you were planning the next anti-war protest.

What’s your problem, don’t you have the guts to admit your failed, lying hero Obama is obviously compounding Bush’s illegal war policies.

Darkness is taking over your insides like a puddle takes over a paper towel. Evil’s already moist hands can now squish you any way it pleases.

From the preachers, to the peace princesses of the sixties, let me congratulate you now on your capitulation to the foolishness of war.

Let’s look at the latest numbers on America’s war in Afghanistan, which I gathered during a recent Google and Bing search: Over $643 billion of your money spent on war (rising by the second), Over 2,200 American service members killed (your neighbors, friends, family and citizens you don’t seem to care about), Over 17,000 Afghans killed (in your name), Over 63,000 Americans remain on duty there (in harms way while politicians in Washington dither in excess comfort).

Let me remind you that reality and facts indicate President Obama’s administration is responsible for the majority of blood money spent on the U.S. Afghan War, as well as the majority of American casualties there. That’s right, he’s spent more money and oversaw more dead troops in Afghanistan than President Bush (do the Google and Bing search, dear friend).

The truth may be painful, but Obama’s war in Afghanistan is five-years-old.

I ask my anti-war friends who voted for Obama, how’s it feel to love killing people in your name?

And if you say you’re still against war, and killing, and bombs, and drones, etc…, then why are you silent on these matters now? Where are your weekly protests on Main St.? Where are your letters to the editor? Where are the rude outbursts at public and private events? Where are the snappy signs and slogans posted everywhere?

Why is it ok with you to continue the war in Afghanistan one minute longer? Why is it ok with you that America continues to spend blood and treasure on a war that can’t be won.

Our inept President and his worthless Congress have as much admitted the war cannot be won with their stated troop drawdown plans over the next year, and the resulting security assistance that will have to remain to prop up whatever Afghan government that exists. And there has not been a clear explanation by Obama on what America‘s commitment (how many troops and funding) will be after the drawdown.

The bulk of American troops are supposedly scheduled to leave Afghanistan sometime next year, in late 2014, even if security for the Afghan people is no better than it is today, even if legitimate elections are not held by then, and even if the current corrupt Afghan government of Hamid Karzai collapses.

And all the facts on the ground there indicate Afghan security, election plans and government stability is not getting better now, or will it next year, or for years to come.

President Obama, like his predecessor Bush, has never given a clear explanation on what “winning” the war means. In fact, both of them have basically said this war is unlike others in our history, that there’s no territory or coherent, stated force of people that need to be taken over or defeated.

Obama’s Special Forces killed the most popular face of the enemy, Osama bin Laden, several years ago and America doesn’t want to occupy or take over the country of Afghanistan.

So what’s the difference then if we just pick up and leave today?

If the Afghan people are no safer today than they will be next year, and their government is no better today than next year, why should America stay another year? Why stay another minute?

Hasn’t America given enough time and money to this war? And really, how long does it take to make the Afghan people secure themselves and their government? If they haven’t done it by now, during the longest war in United States history, they’re not going to do it, ever.

Your own common sense and life experience tells you It doesn’t take five years and hundreds of billions of dollars to create a police/security force and hold some half-assed elections. Something else is going on.

History proves Afghanistan is nothing but a place of turmoil, chaos and tribal law. Other great powers like England and Russia have stuck their noses and weapons into the country and attempted to mollify and shape the people there, with no success. We are just the latest fools to think “we’ll get it right this time.”

The majority of the Afghan people have shown us over and over for the last ten-plus years they have little interest in democracy, human rights or stability. If they did want those things, it would have happened already. If they wanted those things, they would have already turned away or killed all the Taliban and other ignorant anti-human rights Muslim extremist scumbags residing there.

Every few weeks we get reports of Afghan security forces (supposed good guys) turning on American and coalition forces and killing them. Does that seem like the actions of people who want you to liberate them?

The truth and tangible facts dictate it’s time to end America’s military commitment to Afghanistan.

Only our Pinocchio-nosed president, his graft-infested congress and their incestuous lobbyists know why America remains at war in Afghanistan. Could it be the nebulous Military Industrial Complex pulling the strings? Could it be the need of Big Pharmacy to have the unfettered flow of opium continue from Afghan poppy fields? Could it be that keeping troops in Afghanistan is a pretext for another war in a different Muslim country. Could it be America remains at war to preserve the safety of Big Business interests? Could it be an example of Nation-Building (which Obama was against before his first election). Could it be some other reality or conspiracy?

Unfortunately, it seems my anti-war friends don’t care and have stopped asking why.

And I personally, don’t care what reality or conspiracy it is. I just know it needs to end, now, not next year sometime. There is no reason to be there if no clear criteria for “winning” exists and the majority of the people we’re supposedly trying to protect and liberate, don’t really care about freedom or even want us there.

You can expect the current numbers regarding America’s cost in blood and treasure, at the behest of the Afghan people and their government, to only go higher in the next year. And even if we leave then, the cost will continue to rise in the coming decades.

A study released earlier this year by Linda Bilmes, public policy expert at Harvard University, indicates the long term cost of the Afghanistan War should reach somewhere between $4 to $6 trillion over the next few decades. “ The big, big cost comes 30 to 40 years out,” she said. Those costs are driven by medical care and disability payments to the Americans coming back from war.

I ask my anti-war friends, why do you want to add another half dozen trillion in debt to our already broke country? Why is it ok with you that Obama closes the White House to public tours in the name of saving money, at the same time he’s spending money on a war in your name, that we won’t win?

How bout’ we open the White House and close the war, dear friend?
