A Danger to America's Future

Government is a necessary evil. Without it, anarchy and chaos rule the day as strong well-connected bullies run roughshod over the weak un-connected masses. But history also proves to us that excessive Government always-always-always leads to the iron grip of tyranny, with the masses loss of freedom, dignity and human rights by an all-controlling entity in charge.

An example of too little Government is going on right now in Egypt. The absence of Government due to a Military Coup has given the military control over the people. In an effort to quell what the military deems chaos and anarchy within the country’s population, has led to a crackdown on freedom and the rights of the people by that strong military in the form of killing hundreds of protesters in cold blood in the streets, with no judge, jury or due process.

Some examples of too much Government would be the actions of the Communists in the former Soviet Union who would not allow free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion or freedom of expression, just to name a few things they wouldn‘t allow. Also, Hitler’s Socialist turned Nazi Germany was an example of too much Government, when he had the ability to round up millions of citizens he didn’t like and kill them in ovens, including Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, artists, the disabled and more.

In an effort to avoid the two extreme examples of Government, America’s founding fathers created our Representative Democracy in the form of a Republic, with a shackle on the Government thus dictated by the United States Constitution.

Ideally, we the people, pick (elect) a certain group of citizens of like minds that we trust to run the Government by the guidelines of the Constitution for us, securing our ability to pursue “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

The problem today, and what I believe is of great danger to America’s survival, is a loss of trust in the people we pick (elect). If we can’t trust the people we pick to run the Government by the guidelines of the Constitution, we risk our existence turning to either one of the evil Government extremes, too little control or too much.

The issue of trust is more apparent in today’s America because our elected officials are failing us so horribly, both Democrats and Republicans, as well as the Independents and Third parties too. All of them have a hand in the mess we face.

We elect them, send them to Columbus or Washington DC, and then they don’t do what is in the best interests of America’s current economic and social health, or the wellbeing of future generations.

Our elected officials are constantly either ignoring difficult decisions, misleading us or outright lying to us.

You can’t have a functioning Representative Democracy if you can’t trust the representatives. It’s not rocket science.

Below is an example of issues that have lead to a lack of trust in our American Leaders and Government Agencies, just within the last year.

The administration of President Barack H. Obama closed 20 foreign embassies and consulates earlier this month after intelligence services allegedly intercepted a conference call of Al-Qaeda leaders discussing an attack. Many Americans and citizens of the world argue these closings occurred to deflect attention away from the following:

*NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden’s leaks of America’s unauthorized “spying” programs on American citizens and other countries, and his subsequent asylum in Russia. Thus the value and need for Obama to continue “spying” on Americans and the world. (Source-Multiple US and foreign news outlets)

*Several American drone strikes in Yemen that killed suspected terrorists, but also killed multiple innocent Yemeni citizens, including women and children. (Source-McClatchy News and Princeton University Yemeni expert Gregory Johnson)

*The news release that America was already conducting arms sales to Syrian Rebels from Benghazi, Libya during the time U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and others were killed there last year before the American Presidential Election. (Source-The Telegraph UK)

Another example of why there are trust issues with our American Leaders and Government Agencies occurs due to the hyperbole officials and agencies use, while at the same time doing nothing to fix what they claim to care so much about. We are all aware of the horrible situation America faces economically, socially and in regards to National Defense: Almost $17 trillion in debt, over 7 percent unemployment for five years, almost 50 million Americans now on food stamps, significantly more part-time jobs in the so-called recovery than full-time jobs, a severely broken/mismanaged immigration system, terrorists recruiting on American soil and using those recruits to kill us (Boston), over 63,000 troops still in Afghanistan, American drones killing Americans and foreigners worldwide with no due process, the serious backlog in getting veterans their deserved VA benefits, and on and on and on….(Source-do a Google or Bing search)

And all we can get out of our Leaders to fix these problems is a President and Congress taking multiple vacations, playing golf and finding new and amazing ways to spend your money in an inefficient and ludicrous fashion.

It’s obvious why we don’t trust our Government.

But in the end, we get the Government we deserve.

And does that mean we don’t trust ourselves?

Maybe we should start there, and maybe that starts to fix the problem.
