Rider Rumble Nature Race Benefits Portage Parks

3-mile race at Towner's Woods features variety of obstacles

The Portage Park District and Towner's Woods Park will play host Sept. 8 to the annual Rider Rumble, a 3-mile nature race that supports the park district.

The race features a variety of obstacles, including a log jump, two "spider webs," a "hay-bail highway" and several crawling obstacles.

The race will be split into three heats that start at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. You can register online here.

was held last year at Larry's Stables in Franklin Township, and proceeds benefitted the Kent police and fire departments.

Matt Campana, the event founder and organizer, said they had to make a location change this year because the stables couldn't host the race.

"The park district was gracious enough to let us do the event at Towner’s and they are really hurting for funds, so that made the decision pretty easy," Campana said.

Racers will be timed and prizes will be awarded for age groups and teams.
