'Hammy WOD' Supports Adam Hamilton Scholarship

SPC Crossfit raising money for athletic-scholastic scholarship in memory of 2007 Kent Roosevelt graduate

Members of will hold their annual "Hammy WOD" Sunday at Dix Stadium to raise money for the Adam Hamilton Memorial Academic and Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Hamilton, a 2007 graduate, died May 28, 2011, while serving in Afghanistan.

SPC Crossfit designed a special work-out in Hamilton's honor and invites people from all over with all fitness abilities to take part in the event, which is from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. at Kent State University's football stadium on Summit Street.

The event is open to individuals, teams or groups and spectators. SPC Crossfit asks for a $25 donation to the scholarship for participants.

Toby Jurging, owner of SPC Crossfit, said Hamilton's dad, Scott, works out there.

"And he was one of our members when he was home," Jurging said of Adam Hamilton.

The SPC Crossfit team recently in Columbus and earned a spot at the 2012 Crossfit Games in Los Angeles this summer.

"If people want to come out, meet the team, see what we do, support a great local cause and support a great local hero ... Anybody can do it," Jurging said. "You don’t have to be in great shape."
