North Lincoln Building one Option for Kent State Foundation

Foundation could move to vacant North Lincoln Building

The Kent State University Foundation could be moving to the university's vacant building on North Lincoln Street.

In March, the university's board of trustees gave the finance vice president's office approval to get legislative authorization to sell or exchange the foundation's current location, a three-story office building at 1061 Fraternity Circle.

The foundation, a nonprofit board incorporated in 1965, receives gifts on behalf of the university, manages and invests those funds, and administers them in accordance with donor wishes, according to Kent State's website.

The foundation has managed the money donated to buy the land for the new .

The university planned to sell the foundation's current location because it is no longer needed for the foundation, which is "moving to a larger, more accessible university property at 120 N. Lincoln St.," according to the trustees' March agenda, which stated the move "is essential to the downtown Kent redevelopment project and the "

University officials, however, downplayed the certainty of the move.

Gene Finn, executive director of the Kent State Foundation and vice president for institutional advancement, said the idea of moving the foundation offices closer to downtown is still preliminary.

"There’s nothing imminent at all at this point," Finn said. "If the university needs to move us for any particular reason, we’d be happy to do that."
