Kent State Homecoming to Feature 'Crankshaft,' 'Funky Winkerbean' Auction

Cartoonists behind both strips submitted original work used in designing 'The Nest' for auction to benefit student scholarship

Fans of the comic strips Funky Winkerbean and Crankshaft can own some original work by the artists up for auction during Kent State University's Homecoming this weekend.

This spring, Kent State alums and comic strip artists Tom Batiuk and Chuck Ayers worked with the university to turn their strips into a massive mural lining the walls of The Nest lounge on the second floor of the Kent State Student Center.

To make the mural, Ayers created large, original images that were transferred onto the walls.
