Kent State Homecoming Parade, Game this Weekend

'Kiss on the K' new event added this year

Thousands of alumni of Kent State University will return to Kent this weekend for Homecoming 2011 festivities.

Homecoming starts Saturday with the 11th Annual Bowman Cup 5K race, which starts at 8 a.m. at the .

The start of the race is followed with a continental breakfast for alumni from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Williamson Alumni Center at 1200 E. Main St.

The Homecoming Parade steps off at 10 a.m. and will travel west on Main Street into downtown Kent. This year's grand marshal is Kent State alumnus Chad Zumock, who co-hosts The Alan Cox Show on 100.7 WMMS. Zumock also works with the university for the Thursday night comedy shows in the Rathskeller.

Following the parade, the Class of 1962 will hold its reunion luncheon, and at noon a new event dubbed the "Kiss on the K" starts.

The new "Kiss on the K" is meant to celebrate couples who met at Kent State by inviting them all to join and share a kiss on the "K" outlined in brick at Risman Plaza.

Of course, the big draw is Saturday's football game against the Miami University RedHawks. Before the game, the university will host its Flash FanZone at Dix Stadium at 2:30 p.m. The game kicks off at the stadium at 3:30 p.m.
