University joins library and city schools in closing due to weather

Yet another winter snowstorm has rolled through Kent, canceling classes and putting another on-street parking ban in place — the second this week.

All classes have been canceled at Kent State University's Kent campus. The main campus is closed, and only essential employees should report to work. The university's six other campuses have either closed or canceled all classes today.

The is closed today due to the weather. Library hours will resume Saturday at 10 a.m., and today is a fine-free day due to the weather closure.

are among the nearly 700 Northeast Ohio schools closed due to the storm, and today marks the district's fifth snow day of the year. Ohio currently only permits public school districts three calamity days each year for concerns such as large snowstorms.

And motorists in Kent are again banned from parking on city streets.

Kent Service Director Gene Roberts announced the on-street parking ban would take effect today at 9 a.m. to give the city's snow plow crews an easier time clearing streets of ice and snow without the impediment of parked cars.

The parking ban will remain in place until further notice, according to the service department.
