Kent Schools Rated 'Effective' by State for 2010-2011

ranked "effective" again for the 2010-2011 school year, according to preliminary data released by the Ohio Department of Education.

The district earned the same effective distinction for the 2009-2010 school year. The district's score did drop slightly in two rankings.

In this latest rating, Kent schools scored a 97 out of 120 points on the statewide performance index. Last year, the district scored a 97.2.

And last year the district met 22 of 26 state indicators compared with 21 this year.

But several of the district's individual buildings improved their status.

Kent City Schools Superintendent Joseph Giancola said both and received improved scores from the state for the 2010-2011 school year.

"We are excited that several buildings improved their ratings this year," Giancola said. "Longcoy Elementary School increased from Excellent to Excellent with Distinction, and Roosevelt High School improved from Continuous Improvement to Excellent. These changes in our growth indicators help us on our way to being an excellent school district according to Ohio law."

The detailed report cards, including individual school building reports, will not be released to the public until Wednesday by the ODE.
