Emma Forrey Owen, 58, Coached Roosevelt High Field Hockey Team to State Title in 1981

She served for 26 years as the school's activities coordinator.

Emma Forrey Owen, who led the field hockey team to a state championship in 1981 and served for 26 years as the school’s activities coordinator, died of complications from pancreatic cancer Friday, Oct. 28, at age 58.

She served on the Roosevelt faculty from 1974 until retiring in 2008. For nine of those years, she coached Rough Riders field hockey.

Owen was named to the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011.

She was born Emma Forrey in Lancaster, Pa.

The Kent resident was a member of Kappa Delta Gamma and , where she served on the Outreach Committee.

She was active in Leadership Portage County and played a key role in the formation of Youth Leadership Portage County.

Survivors include her husband, David; son, Charles David; her mother, Violet M. Forrey; and siblings, Mary Lou Forrey, John Charles Forrey and Robert Stephen Forrey.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. celebration of her life Saturday, Nov. 12, at the , 1400 East Main St.
