Burst Pipe Floods Kent State Dorm

5 floors affected; 1-2 inches of water filled hallways

A water line burst in a Kent State University residence hall Sunday filling rooms and hallways with water.

The line burst around midnight Sunday filling hallways and 27 single rooms on the first five floors of Leebrick Hall with water, according to the university.

Kent State spokesperson Bob Burford said via email that a chilled water line on the fifth floor burst.

“At the worst of it, there was 1 to 2 inches of water in the hallways,” Burford said. “It was clean water.”

The university’s maintenance, housekeeping, and hall staff responded and offered alternate housing to students, but none took the offer.

Housekeeping staff cleaned carpeting and throw rugs owned by students. None of the dorm residents reported damage to personal items as of Tuesday afternoon.

No dollar estimate of damages is available at this time, Burford said.
