For kindergarten students, a set of vaccination shots is required to begin school, while students at the seventh-grade level must receive a DTaP  vaccination [a combined vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis], said Lori Slattery, Kent City Schools instructional program director.

Parents should have received post cards with information about each student’s bus route last week. Those with questions or needing additional information can call District Transportation at 330-676-7690, she said.

A list of all required forms for the 2011-2012 academic year are available for download and printing on the school-district website.

Kent City Schools Superintendent Joe Giancola said the purpose of the forms and procedures is "to ensure students’ safety, comfort and excellent teaching and learning."

About 3,700 students were enrolled in schools throughout the district during the previous academic year, he said.

"For teachers and support staff, the most exciting time of year is seeing our students come back to school," Giancola said.
