WATCH: Demolition of Crain Avenue Bridge Starts

Workers begin process of locating utility lines, dismantling old bridge

Work is under way to demolish the Crain Avenue Bridge, which closed to traffic late last month when the a few hundred feet south.

Crews are preparing to demolish the span, built in the 1960s, by first finding all the utility lines — such as water and sewer mains — that engineers attached to the bridge decades ago to get the lines across the Cuyahoga River.

Workers will begin dismantling the bridge deck and supports once all the lines have been identified and the utility companies give the OK.
