Meet Local Candidates Running in March 6 Primary

League of Women Voters of Kent sponsoring Feb. 29 event at United Methodist Church of Kent.

The League of Women Voters of Kent will sponsor a candidate forum on Feb. 29 featuring local contested races in the March 6 primary election.

The free event open to all Portage County residents will start at 7 p.m. in Pierson Hall at the .

Candidates will face off for the following races:Portage County Commissioner, term commencing Jan. 2, 2013; Portage County Commissioner, term commencing Jan. 3, 2013; Portage County Recorder and Portage County Sheriff

There are opposed races in the Democratic primary for the sheriff and both commissioners’ races. There are Republican primary contests for the commissioner post starting Jan. 3, 2013, and for the recorder’s job.

In order for voters to meet candidates, the Kent League has also invited individuals running unopposed for U.S. Representative 13th District, State Representative 75th District, Portage County Coroner, Portage County Engineer, Portage County Prosecutor, Portage County Treasurer and Portage County Clerk of Courts.

The program will include only remarks from candidates in contested races.

Those interested in attending should park behind the church, where the entrance to Pierson Hall is located.

The Kent League is affiliated with the Ohio and national League of Women Voters organizations. A leader in local civic activities for the past 68 years, the Kent League promotes voter registration and education. The league is a non-partisan group that studies local, state and national issues and advocates its positions to affect public policy and legislation.
