List of Applicants for Council Vacancy Grows to 11

Kent council to interview applicants tonight

Kent City Council members will interview 11 Kent residents tonight who are interested in being appointed to the vacant seat left by the retirement of former at-large councilman Robin Turner.

In early November just three people had applied for the vacancy, but as of Tuesday morning eight more people put their name in the hat.

Council members have 30 days to make an appointment to fill Turner's seat from the day of his resignation, and they are expected to interview all present applicants and vote on the appointment at tonight's meeting, which starts at 6 p.m.

This month's appointment to council isn't the only one in recent years.

In February council appointed former Theodore Roosevelt High School principal Roger Sidoti to fill the vacancy left by Erik Valenta. Sidoti was one of 16 applicants for the at-large position.

Turner himself was appointed to fill the position left open by the death of longtime councilman Bill Schultz.
