reached in December between the owner of Kent's "freaky-fast" sandwich shop and its landlord dictated the restaurant had until June 1 to make its .
But the owners of the SMJJ II franchise and the property owner, Schweigert Properties Inc. of Akron, agreed last week that the eatery can stay at 303 E. Main St. for at least another month until the new location a block away is finished.
Schweigert Properties agreed to give Jimmy John's until June 30 to make the move, according to a filing in the court case from May 30.
The modified settlement agreement also states Schweigert Properties cannot demolish the restaurant to make way for until after July 1.
Maureen Frederick, president of the Portage County Board of Commissioners, said the county wanted to help the restaurant, which has been unable to get its new location in the Kent Stage building ready as quickly as anticipated.
"It was decided that we would go from month to month on this because Jimmy John's owner is having difficulty readying their new location," Frederick said.
Portage County Commissioner Chris Smeiles said the architectural plans aren't complete for the new courthouse and no plans have yet been submitted for approval by the city for the project.
"Since we are not ready to proceed with construction, it was reasonable to allow the Jimmy John's to stay for an additional month," Smeiles said in an email.
