Franklin Hotel Gets Historic District Status from City

Kent council votes to create historic district enveloping single building downtown

The old Franklin Hotel in downtown Kent is officially a historic building — at least locally.

Members of voted unanimously Wednesday night to declare the five-story landmark "a local historic property."

The vote is one step in a process that requires state approval to establish a state-sanctioned historic district that, for the moment, only includes the old hotel. The label, in short, would bring with it tax credits to aid in the building's restoration.
