Clyde Encourages College Students to Apply for Statehouse Fellowships

Ohio Legislative Service Commission seeks fellows for 2014

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) is encouraging college students to apply for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission (LSC) 13-month Legislative Fellowship Program.

LSC will hire twenty fellows to work in the Ohio legislature or with the Ohio Channel.

“The Legislative Service Commission Fellowship is a great opportunity for recent college graduates to experience working in the Statehouse,” Representative Clyde said. “It’s a very prestigious program, and I strongly urge local college grads who are interested in politics and policy-making to apply.”

LSC fellows are often placed in legislator offices where duties include assisting with constituent services, legislative research, communications work, arranging and attending meetings and events and performing administrative duties. Fellows that work directly with the LSC staff draft legislation, perform legal or fiscal research, monitor sessions of the General Assembly and attend committee meetings. The fellows assigned to the Ohio Channel work as production assistants, where they assist in televising legislative sessions and in the production of public service communications.

The application is open to college graduates of all major fields who have a genuine interest in learning about state government. LSC fellows are full-time, paid employees with benefits. Application materials must be postmarked by April 1, 2013 to be considered for the legislative fellowship. The application deadline for the Ohio Channel fellowship is May 31, 2013.
