Big Bank Protestors: 'They Say Come Back, We Say Fight Back'

A dozen protestors picketed Chase Bank on South Water Street Saturday

"We've had enough, and enough is enough," said Kent resident Debbie Silverstein at Saturday's Make Wall Street Pay rally in front of .

"We bailed out Wall Street, and now it's their turn to bail us out," he said.

Dozens of protesters stood outside Chase with signs protesting big banks and their effect on local communities. The nationwide event was organized to show how Wall Street banks have avoided accountability for what they've done to the economy and communities throughout the nation, according to the protesters.

Brimfield Township resident Dave Durnan walked up to the protesters carrying a check, saying he just cashed out and is starting an account at a local credit union. The protesters cheered.

"I'm sending a message to big banks that they no longer dominate society with the gambling of our money," Durnan said. "Banks like these ruined the economy and my business."

Durnan is the owner of P & D Consultants, which is based in Brimfield Township. He banked with Chase for 16 years, and in the past three years he has seen revenues fall because of the economic crash.

Brecksville resident Paulette Salem said she was willing to travel to fight for what she believes.

"If we don't stand up and regain what we lost since deregulation, we're in trouble," Salem said.

Valerie Strong, of Hudson, agreed.

"There's so much wrong at the moment, and the country is losing its integrity, democracy and we're losing it to corporations and money."
