Video: Kent Firefighters Sharpen Their Skills

Training exercises at Kent State include several area fire departments

Smoke clouds their vision, and a fallen brother shouts for help as firefighters rush into a burning, partially collapsed building.

This is the scenario firefighters probably fear most, and it's just one situation they'll be training for in the next few weeks.

The is working with the architect's office, which has "loaned" the department use of a vacant former dormitory for training.

The vacant Heer Hall will eventually become office space, but while crews renovate the adjacent building Kent is working with other area fire departments to train in the space.

Through six weeks this summer, firefighters will work on a variety of skills, including rescuing an injured firefighter as shown in this video and advanced ground ladders and hose operation. Other area departments participating include Rootstown, Brimfield, Brady Lake, Streetsboro, and Mantua-Shalersville.
