UPDATE: Two Still Hospitalized After Rollover Crash in Kent

Five Kent Roosevelt seniors were injured, one critically, in the crash Wednesday

Two seniors remain hospitalized today after at the intersection of Lake Street and Crain Avenue Wednesday morning.

Zach Marlow, who became pinned beneath the vehicle, was listed as serious for his condition in the intensive care unit at Akron City Hospital Thursday.

Jacob Prunty, who sustained a fractured vertebra in his back during the crash, was listed in stable condition at Robinson Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon.

Marlow's sister, Jennifer Cline, said her brother remains in critical condition and doctors are monitoring his intracranial pressure because of swelling of his brain after the crash. The good news, Cline said, is that doctors have not seen any hemorrhaging or bleeding of his brain.

"The other major focus has been on his liver, which was severely injured," she said. Doctors have successfully slowed bleeding by applying pressure to the liver through multiple surgeries.

Cline said the family appreciates all the prayers and well wishes from friends. She encouraged friends to write letters and send cards with get-well wishes instead of calling frequently for updates on her brother's condition.

Friends can send flowers and cards to Marlow by calling the Plant Place at Akron City Hospital at 330-375-3238. The Plant Place accepts credit cards, and its hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tammy Prunty-Ayers said in an e-mail she was hopeful her son, Jacob Prunty, would be released from the hospital in Ravenna Thursday.

"I thank God he was OK," Prunty-Ayers said. "My prayers go out to Marlow's family. My son is very upset because he was unable to help his friend. He said all he could do was reach his leg and tell him he hears (help) coming, 'We will be out soon, hang on.'

"He was more upset with himself not being able to get out of the Jeep to help (Marlow)," she said.

Friends can send cards to Prunty by calling Robinson Memorial Hospital's gift shop at 330-297-2347. The gift shop accepts Visa and Mastercard, and its hours are: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Marlow and Prunty were two of the five people riding in the Jeep Liberty when it rolled over. Fellow senior Garrett Byerly was driving, and friends Demitre Jones and Nathaniel Fleck were also riding in the car.

All three sustained less-serious injuries and were reportedly released from the hospital Wednesday.

Kent Police Lt. Paul Canfield said it could take several days before officers piece together the cause of the crash.
