Teen Pulled from Cuyahoga River

Boy is third person to get in trouble in the high water this year

Kent police pulled a 16-year-old boy from the Cuyahoga River this evening after he was swept away in the current while swimming.

Kent Fire Lt. Patrick Edwards said the boy was swimming with his friends near just before 8 p.m. when he was swept about 50 yards downstream by the current.

Edwards said a Kent police officer threw his K-9 leash to the boy and helped pull him to the river's edge.

"Other than being a little tired, he was OK," Edwards said.

The boy's name was not immediately available Saturday. He is the third person this year to encounter trouble in the high waters, which have been bolstered by this spring.

According to police radio traffic, someone fell into the river near the Crain Avenue Bridge after 12 a.m. Saturday. No further information about that incident was available Saturday.

A 9-year-old Kent girl, Madelyn Fisher, and was pulled from the rushing waters by Kent State University student Eric Johnston.

Kent police and firefighters responded to a report of , but that report proved unfounded.
