Logan Andrew West, 18, of Stow was arrested Monday and charged with raping a child under the age of 10, Portage County Sheriff's Office officials said.
Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak said deputies responded to the 5600 block of South Prospect Street in Ravenna Township to assist Ravenna Township emergency medical workers on Saturday.
Ravenna Township EMS was responding to a call regarding an injury to a 15-month-old girl.
Due to the severity of the child's injuries, the infant was taken first to Robinson Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, officers said.
During the following investigation police learned the trauma to the infant appeared to be the result of a sexual assault, Doak said. Several people, including West, were present in the home at the time of the incident.
West is the boyfriend of the child's mother, sheriff's officials said. West, who lives on Wyoga Lake Road in Stow, cooperated in the investigation, officials said.
West was taken into custody Monday and is being held in the Portage County Jail. He is charged with rape of a child under the age of 10 years, a felony.
West is being held without bond and will be arraigned today at the Ravenna courthouse.
Police said the infant was released from Akron Children’s Monday.
I pray the child has a fast physical recovery and isn't mentally scarred too bad. And if Mom was in the house.... the child needs taken away from the Mom. The child should have been better protected and supervised. Whoever was in the home at the time and called EMS, thank you. Some people might have tried to cover it up.
