Stabbing Victim Found Through Well-Being Check

No charges have been filed in Kent man's death Monday night

A well-being check led Kent police to find in his Lawrence Court apartment Monday night.

"We were called for a well-being check by somebody that knew him," Kent Police Lt. Paul Canfield said.

No other update on the case was available so far this afternoon, as Canfield said police are releasing few details about Sipes' death due to the ongoing homicide investigation.

Sipes, 57, was found dead in his apartment at 933 Lawrence Court just after 8 p.m. Monday. His body was taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, where a preliminary autopsy report indicated Sipes died from internal injuries dealt by a stab wound.

A final autopsy report, including microbiological and drug and alcohol test results, could take weeks.

Canfield said Tuesday that there is a person of interest in the case, but no one has been charged or is being held in connection with Sipes' death.

Tom Decker, chief investigator for the Portage County Coroner's Office, said Sipes lay dead less than a day before police found his body Monday evening.
