UPDATE: Rollover Crash on River Bend Sends 3 to Hospital

All after-school activities canceled; speed possible factor in crash

Three people were injured after the car they were riding in rolled over on River Bend Boulevard this afternoon.

One of the crash victims was flown via Metro Life Flight medical helicopter to Akron Children's Hospital.

Kent Fire Chief James Williams said the single-car crash happened just east of the bridge on River Bend Boulevard at about 3 p.m.

Williams said all three were transported to area hospitals.

The extent of the victims' injuries are unknown at this time.

Kent Police Lt. Paul Canfield said one of the car's passengers was ejected in the crash.

"Speed may have been a factor," Canfield said.

Anthony Scerba, a student at , said he is friends with two of the crash victims and said all three are female students at the high school.

Their names could not yet be confirmed.

Whether all three victims are students at the high school could not be confirmed, but Williams said all three appeared to be high-school age.

Kent City Schools officials issued a parent broadcast this afternoon alerting parents to the cancellation of all after school activities.

The helicopter took off from a parking lot at the Kent City Schools campus at 3:45 p.m. with a crowd of students, still at school for sports practices and other activities, watching.
